New CEO appointed April 2023

Having invested two years already in building a strong foundation for CAP Ireland, the initial Steering Team, now Board of Directors, are pleased to announce the appointment of Alan McElwee as Chief Executive Officer and he starts this month.

As a Christian for over 30 years, Alan has sought to love God, the Church and neighbours with whom he lives and works. Most recently, Alan has worked full time for another well-known Christian charity, helping vulnerable persons and those affected by poverty overseas.

As he now looks forward to this new season of work/ministry that God has brought him to with CAP Ireland, his passion is continuing to help those affected by poverty in all its forms, especially those burdened with financial difficulties and mounting debts, across Ireland. Problem debt can affect persons with no/low; middle and even high incomes within our country so we’re mindful of the words found in The Book of Esther: “…for such a time as this…”

Prior to working full time in the Community & Voluntary sector in Ireland, Alan worked bi-vocationally in business for many years while also in various Christian-ministry roles in Dublin.

Originally from Dublin, Alan lived for 6 years in the USA including to study at Moody Bible Institute (Pastoral Studies graduating 1991) in Chicago. Alan also met his wife Sheryl in Chicago and they have three adult sons (and a daughter-in-law as of Aug22), all of whom are living outside of Ireland.

Alan tries to stay physically fit by cycling as much as possible and he enjoys open-sea swimming. He also enjoys chatting with people; listening to podcasts and reading.

Should you wish to contact Alan his email is alan@capireland.ie
